The 2010 World Series is only hours away and it looks like it should be a great series.  The Fall Classic will start at AT&T Park tonight with a great pitching matchup featuring Cliff Lee and Tim Lincecum.  I for one cannot wait for this series to get underway, with two underdog teams in the playoffs, both from what has been long considered “weak” west divisions from each League.  The AL West and NL West have been looked down upon in recent memory until this year.  Maybe they are really tougher than the other divisions in baseball. Then again, maybe the law of averages came into play and it was their time to win.

These two teams have had nearly mirror images this post season.  The Rangers beat the Yankees and Rays, both teams in the AL East and Wild Card teams, while the Giants did the same in beating the Braves and Phillies, both in the NL East.  Both teams have also been great on the road this post season.  The Rangers are 5-1 on the road this post season while the Giants are 4-1.  Good teams need to find ways to win on the road and both have done so this post season in some tough places to win at.

Both teams have had great pitching in the playoffs, for the Giants this was expected with their rotation and bullpen.  For Texas it was mostly a wait and see approach after Cliff Lee for the starters.  Their bullpen has been very good this post season as well keeping some very potent offenses in check.   For the Giants you have to look at Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez and Madison Bumgarner having been one of the best rotations in the majors this season and a big reason the Giants got to the post season.  Their bullpen has also been lights out this post season and teams have many reasons to “Fear the Beard” of closer Brian Wilson as he has been as consistent as any closer has in the playoffs in many years.

As for hitting you have to give the edge to Texas.  They have used their big bats to get through the ALCS against the even bigger bats of the Yankees.  In the ALDS they also got some very clutch hitting when needed.  The Giants need to keep Elvis Andrus in check as well on the base paths.  As mentioned before he is the offensive spark on this team.  Base running might be where this series is won or lost.  It will become very evident early that this will be a tight series where the smallest error of a past ball or over throw to a base will be the difference.

I expect this to be a low scoring series, well lower for Texas than per usual.  I think that the Giants have peaked, so to speak in the NLCS against the Phillies.  Giant fans, I love you I really do, I grew up loving watching Will “The Thrill” Clark and Matt Williams, but I just think this team will take you to the “Torture Chamber” once again and see another seven game defeat to Texas giving the Rangers their first World Series win.

Game 1 @ AT&T Park, San Francisco

TEX Cliff Lee @ SF Tim Lincecum

Look for a game as advertised, low scoring.  The hitters will be a little bit under the microscope tonight and may tighten up on the bats a bit more.  Look for pitching gems from both guys tonight and a close 3-2 or 4-3 Texas win with the go ahead run being scored in the top of 8th inning.

GAME 2 @ AT&T Park, San Francisco

TEX C.J. Wilson vs SF Matt Cain

Again should be a tight game late when the Giants get the revenge with a late inning run to win the game.

GAME 3 @ Rangers Ballpark, Arlington

SF Jonathan Sanchez at TEX Colby Lewis

Bubble bursts in this series offensively tonight.  Texas gets to Sanchez with gutsy baserunning and opens it up after the 6th inning like they did against the Yankees.  Texas wins this one big

Game 4 @ Rangers Ballpark, Arlington

SF Madison Bumgarner @ TEX Tommy Hunter

Another slugfest in Texas with the Rangers coming out on top to take a 3-1 series lead.

Game 5  @ Rangers Ballpark, Arlington

SF Tim Lincecum vs TEX Cliff Lee

Yes Cliff Lee will be unbeaten until this point in the post season but all of his wins and starts have come on the road.  Lee likes the road more than at home and the pressure will be on Lincecum to win a game this series.  Texas becomes victims to a Lee like performance by Lincecum to send the series back to San Fran.

Game 6 @ AT&T Park, San Francisco

TEX C.J. Wilson @ SF Matt Cain

A repeat of the game two pitching matchup will be one of many runs on this cold night by the Bay.  Texas blows the game late and the Giants send their fans back to the “Torture Chamber” and a game seven.

Game 7 @ AT&T Park, San Francisco

TEX Colby Lewis @ SF Jonathan Sanchez

Say what you want but San Fran might throw out Lincecum on three days rest for this one instead of Sanchez.  The Rangers will have Cliff Lee in the pen ready to go incase Lewis gets in trouble.  An early run by the Rangers will hold up until the 5th when the Giants will get 2 or 3.  Sanchez will be ok until the top of the 6th where he will be pulled after giving up a two run shot to Josh Hamilton.  The Rangers will have the lead until the bottom of the 7th where the Giants will tie it up on a solo shot by Buster Posey.  Then the Giants will use the speed of Andrus in the top of the 8th to get him around the bases and home for the go ahead run.  Texas shuts down the Giants bats and wins the series 4-3.

Predictions are fun, feel free to post yours below.  Lets all hope for a great World Series this year and some exciting baseball.  Enjoy!
