Evgeny Grachev Movin’ On Up; Anisimov, Rosival Not Too Shabby

Forward Evgeny Grachev has been called up from the Hartford Wolfpack to the big leagues, for now.

Although Artem Anisimov left injured against the Thrashers Wednesday night after the puck hit his ankle, he is expected to play tomorrow night. Coach John Tortorella has cleared him to play after an MRI revealed no serious damage was done.

Grachev will likely fill in for Derek Boogaard who left practice early with a hand infection and will be a game time decision.

The Rangers’ 2008 third round pick shined in the rookie showcase Traverse City tournament. The 20-year-old has one goal and one assist in nine games with the Wolfpack this season. He may offer the third or forth line some pizzazz.

Defenseman Michal Rosival also seemed to be yet another black and Blueshirt with an injured knee but he too, is expected to return against the Hurricanes tomorrow.

To the left, to the left: Matt Gilroy is slowly but surely solidfying his spot in the third defensive pair on the left. Last night he almost tied up the game with a wicked shot from the point that rang off the post. He had three solid shots on goal and continues to chip in more on offense.

Quote of the night:

John Tortorella to the NY Daily News on some Center issues and a misteppin’ Stepan:

“I tried Erik (on the top line), nothing happened. I put Whitey there, and it’s not just because he scored a goal – I thought for three or four shifts, he was pretty good, and it was really the first time that he’s been put in a little bit of an offensive role. So we’ll see how the game goes on. If Anisimov can play, I want to put him right back in there with Cally and Dubi. … Step, it’s a little bit of a struggle for him right now. We want to work with him, we want to show him the tape and some of the things we need to bring to his attention, and we’ll see how it goes. I’d like to find out if Whitey can work in some offensive roles, and when he got an opportunity last night, he certainly didn’t do a poor job – ends up scoring a goal around the net, and I thought made some good plays.”
