Before we get into the blog here is a pop quiz concerning this week’s showdown between the Colorado Buffalos and the 9th ranked Oklahoma Sooners:
The Buffalos have a better chance of beating the Sooners in Norman this week if….
A) They decide that whoever wins the coin toss wins the game (at least the Buffs would have a 50-50 shot)
B) The Sooners forget they have a game this week and are already in College Station, TX to take on Texas A&M
C) The Sooners play like the Denver Broncos did against the Raiders last week
D) All of the Above
This game would be interesting to watch if….
A) The Sooners pretended to be the classic “slow moving” zombies from horror films allowing the Buffs to run right bye them
B) The characters from Twilight are forced to stand at the line of scrimmage between the massive Sooner offensive line and the Buffs defensive line then watching those pasty little vampires get crushed over and over again
C) Buffs Head Coach Dan Hawkins is forced to wear a Lady Gaga Halloween costume and Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops has to wear a Katy Perry outfit while they duke it out at mid field to decide who is the ultimate diva!
D) All of the Above
This game will be aired in primetime on ESPN2 because…
A) It was just too good to put on ESPNU or Fox Sports? Really?
B) CU is going to use the money they make from this nationally televised game to pay for the buyout on Dan Hawkins contract
C) The Big 12 couldn’t resist one more chance to embarrass the University of Colorado on national television before they go to the Pac 12 next year
D) Who wouldn’t want to watch a bunch of helpless Buffalos get slaughtered?
E) All of the Above
But seriously, the Buffalos (3-4, 0-3) have a chance to beat the Sooners (6-1, 2-1) in Norman on Saturday, just like I have a chance to win the lottery but the odds are heavily stacked against me. Why don’t they have much of chance in this highly unpredictable season, where it seems like top teams are getting upset every week? Oklahoma has more talent at almost every position than CU and the Sooners are going to be extremely focused after being knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten by Missouri last week. Good teams like Alabama, Nebraska and Ohio State bounce back quickly and the formerly top ranked Sooners are a very good team.
I could go into a lot of stats and figures to back up my claim such as the Sooners are undefeated at home and the Buffs have been terrible on the road this year, only scoring one touchdown, but I don’t really need to. CU is beat up emotionally and physically after two heart breaking losses at home and losing starting quarterback Tyler Hansen for the season to a ruptured spleen. On the other hand, teams with similar talent levels to the Buffs have played Oklahoma tough with Air Force and Cincinnati coming close to upsetting the Sooners. Even Utah State (2-5) hung with Oklahoma only to lose by a touchdown.
If, these two teams had played three weeks ago in Boulder I would have given the Buffs a solid chance of winning, but with CU’s injury’s, in Norman and an angry Sooners squad out to prove that the Mizzou game was a fluke the Buffs have no chance. This game is like a bad horror movie, we know how it’s going to end and it’s not going to be pretty. The best the Buffs can hope for is to not get to beat up so they have a chance against Kansas next week.
Oklahoma 42, CU 17
Answer Key: If you really need an answer key for the quiz you have officially taken it way to seriously.
