Say It’s So, Joe

It looks like Joe Girardi will be back in Pinstripes, for the next three seasons at least. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post , Girardi has agreed to a three-year deal to remain Yankees manager. Reportedly, Girardi is set to make $9 million in base salary with post-season bonuses of $450,000-$500,000.
If this were during the reign of GMS III, Girardi would have been out on his ear after the Bombers collapsed against Texas, but a kinder, gentler regime now prevails in the Bronx and at the Mother Ship in Tampa, so three years it is.
Lest we forget, Joe led the Yankees to a World Championship last season, but as always, it’s what have you done for me lately?
Girardi is a good manager. He works very hard and crunches numbers with the best of them, however, he’s not yet what I would call an intuitive manager, as evidenced by his reliance on “The Binder” this year, which seemed to get him (and the Yankees) into trouble in the post-season.
He can no longer hit or catch for the Yankees. He can only put the best lineup out on the field and try to gain the biggest advantage through matchups. He’ll get his chance at bringing home the New York’s 28th World Championship in 2011, but you better bet that the Steinbrenners are banking on 29 and 30 as part of his three-year deal.
