Seattle Seahawks – Oakland Raiders Preview

In an NFC – AFC West showdown the 4 – 2 Seattle Seahawks travel to Oakland to face off against the 3 – 4 Oakland Raiders. The Seahawks who are off to their best start since 2006 are┬ácoming off a huge divisional win at home against the Arizona Cardinals 22 – 13, while the Raiders are coming off against a blow out victory against Divisional rival Denver Broncos where they set a franchise record for points 59 – 14.

One key to this game for the seahawks is to stay strong on defense against the run. Colin Cole and company are second in the league against the run with 77 yards a game, while the raiders are third overall in the league running the ball with 158 yards a game. Like the seahawks Marshawn Lynch and Justin Forsett the raider’s have a running back tandem of their own in Darren McFadden who has rushed for 557 yards with 4 touchdowns and Michael Bush who has rushed for 256 with 3 touchdowns so stopping these two should be the seahawks top priority.

Another key to this game for the Seahawks is to protect Matt Hasselback. He can’t keep taking a beating like he did last week when he was sacked five times. The Seahawks are thin on the line this year with the loss of Rookie LT Russell Okung who is out with a high ankle sprain, and starting Center Max who is out for the year after injuring his toe in a victory against San Francisco on September 14. Giving Hasselback should allow him to find his hot receiver Mike Williams who has really been coming on as of late with 21 catches for 210 yards and a TD his last two games.

Overall this should be an interesting game. The Seahawks who haven’t won in Oakland since 1997 when they beat them 22 – 21 have had trouble on the road for as long as I can remember. But hopefully with the win over Chicago a couple weeks ago things will change. If Seattle’s defense continues to play well, and If they don’t turn the ball over then they have a good shot at winning this game. The turnovers are the key, in their two losses this year they turned the ball over six times.
