The Ducks played host tonight to the New Jersey Devils, the League losers in most points allowed per game, even with Marty Brodeur in the net.  Brodeur has played all 19 of his seasons with the Devils as a 4 time Vezina Trophy winner, a 10 time NHL All-Star, and a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame.   However, it didn’t matter that Marty Brodeur was out on the ice Friday, or that the Ducks were out there either for that matter, all that commentators could talk about was Ilya Kovalchuk.  I guess you can’t really blame them, though, considering how sluggish the Ducks looked during the first period with only 7 shots on goal.

The Ducks managed to pick up their skates a bit in the second period, resulting in Jason Blake’s power play goal.  Thanks to Blake’s goal, you the fan, or casual reader can go to the Ducks’ website and print out a coupon for Oggi’s Pizza and Brewing Company for some sort of free/discounted something or other.  Make sure to go soon, though, because the last coupon from the Stars’ game was only good for a day.

Despite yielding a free coupon for the fans, Blake’s goal was not enough to beat the Devils, due to goals by Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrick Elias.  Ducks lose 1-2.

The Ducks’ loss tonight ended their one game winning “streak” from their Tuesday game against the Dallas Stars.  Pucks were netted by George Parros, Teemu Selanne (passing Bobby Hull for 15th place on the all time scoring list), and Corey Perry.  Sharp shooter, Bobby Ryan, had two goals.  Ryan Getzlaf, Lubomir Visnovsky, and Toni Lydman had two assists each.

In other Ducks news, Cam Fowler has yet to play since breaking his nose versus the Coyotes on the 19th – not sure what’s going on with him. Dan Sexton underwent surgery on his broken nose yesterday and is expected to miss two weeks.  Coach Carlyle described his nose as “pretty mushed up” having suffered multiple fractures.  Matt Beleskey is on the IR after suffering a concussion from a hit by Stars’ defenseman, Stephane Robidas on Tuesday.  Left winger, Josh Greene, was recalled from the Syracuse Crunch for tonight’s game.

Not forgetting about commentary on my other team, the Penguins looked like the Ducks of earlier this season, losing horrifically to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday, giving up a 3-1 first period lead built on two short-handed goals. At one point in time, Marc Andre Fleury was scurrying around behind the net while the puck and the rest of the players were in front of the net.  On top of that, the Pens spent most of the night in the sin bin, which hosted six different Penguins, three of them twice and some times two at a time.

Ducks will migrate up the coast to take on the San Jose Sharks tomorrow, Saturday, October 30th at 7:30 pm.  The Ducks are home for 6 of their next 8 games, including a game versus the Pittsburgh Penguins on November 5th.
