Buffs Blown out in Norman

If this was London during the WWII blitz air-raid sirens would have been blaring all over Norman Saturday night because Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones dropped bombs on CU’s defense all night. Jones threw for a career-high 453 yards and four touchdowns with 208 yards and three tds going to standout wide receiver Ryan Broyles who set a school record for receiving yards. CU could not keep pace with the Sooner aerial assault and fell to Oklahoma by a score of 43-10.
The Buffs (3-5, 0-4) hung with the Sooners (7-1, 3-1) for exactly one quarter before OU’s offense unleashed a devastating passing attack that ripped the CU defense to shreds. Landry Jones passed for 291 yards in the first half including an 81 yard strike to Ryan Broyles in second quarter and the rout was on. Add a blocked punt for a safety which led to another OU touchdown at the end of the half and what was initially a close game turned into a 29-3 lead for Oklahoma at halftime.
The Sooners weren’t done quite yet as the tandem of Jones and Broyles hooked up one more time for a 64 yard touchdown pass to open the second half. The Buffalos scored their lone touchdown of the game in the third quarter when CU quarterback Cody Hawkins hooked up with Scotty McKnight for a 49 yd td pass. That was all the offense CU could muster as the Sooners rolled to a 43-10 victory over the outmatched Buffalos.
The reality is CU didn’t have a chance against the Sooners. The Buffs were outgunned and deep in hostile territory. They need to put this loss in the rearview mirror and start focusing on the Jayhawks right now because, while the loss to the Sooners hurt, losing to the Jayhawks next week would effectively end any hope of salvaging this season.
