It’s difficult to put into words how awful the Cowboys played this Sunday against a bad Jacksonville team. They have consistently failed to function a team in every facet of the game. They are playing like an uninspired team that has no purpose in the league. No aspirations of playing spoilers in the East, no pride in playing out every game to the best of their abilities, and no discipline on the field or the side lines. It’s like watching a team of all rookies that keep making mistake like they’re brand new to the league. How can anyone defend anything that they are showing us game in and game out. They have had their bad seasons and their struggles, but never to this extent, and never with this poor play.
Throughout most of the game the offense seemed out of sync, which could be contributed to the change at the quarterback position had that not been the norm through the season already. As usual, they mounted a few late drives, but by that point the game was already out of reach.
Defensively, Dallas looked like the easily exploited pass defense of a few seasons back, as the 28th ranked pass attack of Jacksonville picked them apart. Mike Sim-Walker, who has been shut down twice this season, looked like a pro-bowler grabbing 8 receptions for 153 yards and a TD. David Garrard, who has also been up and down all season, looked like he was toying with Dallas, throwing for 260 yards, 4 TDS, and completely faking out the Cowboys defense for a running score.
The special teams looked special once again during a punt to Mike Thomas. While they circled him Thomas, who had not called for a fair catch, took off to the Jaguars 25 while they would have had Jacksonville pinned at the 9 yard line had they played the play through the whistle.
Jerry Jones says he has never fired a head coach during the season and will not start, but it’s looking like that may be the only thing that can breathe any life into this team. They truly are getting worse by the game. It’s time Jerry pulled the plug on the Wade Phillips experiment, and though I know in all likelihood it will lead to a Jason Garrett led team, at least the team will be doing something proactive. And maybe we will be able to see if Garrett is even capable of running a team. It can’t be much worse than what their doing now.
The team looks miserable, and the fans are feeling it too. There was a fan in the stands with a bag on their head, though festive for the season as it had a pumpkin face drawn on it, it is all too clear that people are losing faith and hope in Dallas this season.
