1 week into the season the Utah Jazz are exactly where nobody expected them to be, in the cellar of the Western Conference’s Northwest Division. They played 2 horrible games this past week, neither of which did they sustain any continuity on offense or defense. The Jazz have given up the most points per game in their division at 110, this issue is magnified when they are only averaging 91 points themselves. Thats a differential of 19, I watched the Suns-Jazz game and all I walked away thinking was they need to sustain their positve stretches of play. They would play great defense long enough to come back from a double digit deficit and then just stop, only to go back into the hole they just climbed out of. They do have a couple of new pieces, so I will be patient and give them a chance to work some of the kinks out before I pass judgement on them. I will continue to stick with my initial belief that they will finish atop their division. At the end of the day it’s a Jerry Sloan team, they WILL get it together. One other nugget of information I took from the Suns game, Al Jefferson is an absolute BEAST on the block and needs the ball early in the shot clock. Jefferson was a problem down there, even when he was double and triple teamed it resulted in a bucket or and one. As soon as this Jazz team starts playing defense the way they’re capable of playing defense, you will see the Jazz rise in the standings. Hopefully that will be sooner rather than later..
