And the Patriots have done it again; proving to everyone through week 8 that they are the best team in the NFL. They have the best record being 6-1 and are rated number 1 on ESPN’s NFL Power Rankings. The Patriots are playing great and just beat a very talented Minnesota Vikings team. They probably had an advantage with Favre starting and took advantage of that throughout the game.
Things did not really break loose for the Patriots until the second half of the game. Being tied 7-7 going into the half the Patriots just got things going late in the third quarter. Brady did not have one of his better games, but did an outstanding job on one particular play. He avoided the Vikings rush, waited long enough for a WR to break open, and found Brandon Tate make a move for the end zone. Brady threw a deep ball perfectly to Tate for a 65-yard TD pass. Aside from that, Brady only completed 16 passes and did not look particularly sharp. However, the defense and Benjarvus Green-Ellis did.
Benjarvus had a great game against a very tough run defense. He completely blew me by surprise and not only rushed the ball 17 times, but did that for 112 yards with 2 TDs. He came up huge for this offense and has proven he can have big games and can get the job done as long as the Pats give him a chance.
The defense also played extremely well, as they have been, limiting Favre to a lot of short passes, and holding former teammate Randy Moss to just 1 catch for 8 yards. They showed the Vikings why they traded him and pretty much embarrassed the Vikings front office. In doing so, the Vikings came to the conclusion to waive Moss (It was not really the Patriots fault, but it is quite a coincidence the Vikings waived Moss after playing the Patriots).
The Patriots looked good yet again and really took me by surprise. Let’s hope they continue this run and come out victorious over the Browns in Cleveland this week.
