week 8 preview: FAU at WKU

FAU (2-5, 1-3) travels to Bowling Green, Kentucky for more conference play as they take on Western Kentucky University (1-7, 1-3) on Saturday, Nov. 6th. After last weeks big win over FIU, the Owls will be on a winning high. Hopefully it will be enough to spark a second consecutive win to turn this teams moral around.
WKU is in last place in the Sun Belt conference. Granted, FAU is just right above them in the ranking, but it’s not just WKU’s record that makes them a worse team. In the Hilltoppers homecoming game against North Texas, they lost miserably 6-33. Normally the home team in a homecoming game crushes the opposing team. Not the other way around. North Texas is only right above FAU in the Sun Belt standing. To allow a team that is just as bad as you destroy you in your own homecoming game is astonishing.
FAU has a lot going for them this week. Not only did the Owls win the homecoming game and beat rival FIU, the team looked better than it has all season. The defense stepped up big time and was able to hold FIU to just three field goals. That’s something that hasn’t been done all season. Offensively, the Owls looked confident. Running back Alfred Morris finally had a solid game breaking for close to 100 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Jeff Van Camp and wide receiver Lester Jean were on the same page the whole game, but most importantly, the O-line gave Van Camp time to make good decisions.
Bottom Line: The Hilltoppers suffer from the same problems as the Owls, but FAU appears in good shape right now. Better than they have all season. If they can keep up the energy and play as they did last week, we are looking at a big win for the Owls.
Prediction: FAU wins by 14
