The 5-2 Baltimore Ravens host the 4-3 Miami Dolphins. The Ravens are coming of bye looking for a win. The Dolphins are desperate for a win to stay in reach for the AFC East division.
Offense: Edge Ravens
Both of these offenses resemble each other in certain ways. They both have a young up in coming quarterback, Joe Flacco and Chad Henne. They both like to use two running backs throughout the game and have a pro bowl type wide receiver. Dolphins and Ravens are neck and neck in total offense, 19th and 20th in the league. Ravens got the edge over the Dolphins because there quarterback has more game experience and are at home. Offenses have trouble performing on the road due to crowd noise. Its hard to here snap counts which results in many false starts or blown up plays.
Defense: Edge Ravens
Not many teams are going to out beat the Ravens on defense. They had one flaw and that was turnovers. Their turnover machine Ed Reed returned from injury and got two interceptions in he’s first game back. Even though Miami out ranks the Ravens in total defense, 7th to 8th, the Ravens have a better defense. The Ravens are fifth h in the league in points allowed. They are the stingiest defense when it comes to touchdowns and they know how to get of the field of third down. Their fifth in the league in getting of the field on third down. The Dolphins have a young group of players on defense that look to be pretty good, Cameron Wake and Vontae Davis, and they had a big signing in free agency landing Karlos Dansby in Miami.
Special Teams: Edge Dolphins
Dan Carpenter has made 18 of his 20 field goal attempts. Three of them where from 50 yards and beyond. Neither team is good at kickoff and punt returns. Baltimore is a little better in covering returns. However, the edge goes to the Dolphins due to there kicking game. Carpenter made all five field goal attempts against the Pittsburgh Steelers two weeks ago. They lost by one point but, they can go toe to toe with any team when it’s a dog fight and your kicker has to go out there and win you the game.
Prediction: Dolphins 21, Ravens 27
The Ravens are coming of a bye, their at home and they almost lost to the 0-7 Buffalo Bills before going on there bye week. Their going to sure up their mistakes and play better defense then what they did against the Bills. The Dolphins are going to keep it close because they’re in desperation mode to keep themselves afloat in the AFC East.
