Week 9 is almost here and some of us are making our run for the playoffs and some of us are hoping not to end up in last place. For those of you still searching waivers, I’ve noticed that Austin Collie has become available in around 93% of leagues, guys if he is there grab him. Collie is already practicing again in full and will be valuable down the stretch. Also Vincent Jackson’s value is rising with Chargers wide receiving core being depleted his return may be of great value come playoff time. Match ups down the line to look for are teams facing a Texas pass D. Both Dallas and Houston are showing vulnerability to the pass with no real signs of that improving any time soon.
Here are players to look at this week outside of your obvious starters. (A. Peterson, P. Manning, A. Johnson, etc.)
Aaron Rodgers vs DAL – Rodgers has had a difficult time as of late, but the way Dallas is playing and on top of being at Lambeau Field, the Packers look like a great match up versus a struggling Dallas team.
Eli Manning vs SEA – Manning is at Seattle, and though he can be sporadic at times, he has been able to post decent numbers. Seattle has had problems defending the pass and Manning has a good receiving core. He will likely throw a pick or 2, but his totals should balance out.
Carson Palmer vs PIT – Drew Brees was able to put up solid numbers against the Steelers last week, but don’t look for Palmer to do the same this week against a tough Pittsburgh D. Palmer has struggled all season long and will likely do the same this week.
Jon Kitna vs GB – Kitna could have had a decent game from a fantasy standpoint last week had it not been for a few bad picks that weren’t on him, though some were. That was against a bad Jacksonville team. Now he will face Green Bay at Lambeau on Sunday night. It looks to be another tough outing for the Boys this week.
Matt Forte vs BUF – I’m not the biggest fan of Matt Forte after last season’s debacle that was his year, but he’ll be facing a Buffalo team that is still dead last in the league versus the run, and that will likely be a continuing trend this week.
LeGarrette Blount vs ATL – Blount broke out last week against the Cardinals for 120 yards and 2 TDs on the ground. He has earned a good chunk of playing time and should be a good player to roll with through the 2nd half of the season.
Cedric Benson vs PIT – Another Bengal that should have a tough time this week is Cedric Benson. He has struggled all season to put up consistent numbers and has fallen short most weeks for owners. That should continue on this week.
Marshawn Lynch vs NYG – Lynch is having a hard time behind a bad line in Seattle, hopefully he will come around by the time the fantasy playoffs start. This is a bad week to run him though, with a surging Giants defense.
Dwayne Bowe – He would not typically be a great start against the Raiders pass D, but with an injury that will keep Nnamdi Asomugha out his chances are greatly improved this week.
Patrick Crayton vs HOU – Again Houston is one of the worst pass defenses and things aren’t improving. with all the injuries at wide out in San Diego and lots of coverage rolling toward Antonio Gates, Crayton looks like he could have a viable impact this week.
Darrius Hayward-Bey vs KC – Why I even have to mention him on here is beyond me, but there is a lot of hype behind this former first round pick after a 100 yard outing. With Louis Murphy hurting Heyward-Bey is likely to be the Raiders deep threat, but he has been terrible all season long and outside of a deep shot he got for the TD last week his day was terrible. This won’t likely be a trend for him and Kansas City is sneaky good on defense.
Chad Ochocinco vs PIT – I may as well condemn the whole Bengals team I know, well Ochocinco hasn’t been predominantly bad against the Steelers, but has only had 3 TDs against them since he has been in the league. With his inconsistencies this season that shouldn’t change this week.
Jacob Tamme vs PHI – Tamme opened some eyes last Monday and looks to be legit in filling in for Dallas Clark. With the cream rising to the top in the tight end spot he is worth a start in most leagues.
Visanthe Shiancoe vs ARI – With Moss gone and Percy Harving hurting Favre, if he plays, will look back to his tight end this week against an up and down defense in Arizona.
Zach Miller vs KC – Miller has been great this season, but an injury is hampering him this week and he is iffy to play. Even if he goes he’s not a great start this week.
Brent Celek vs IND – Celek has been inconsistent at best all season long and with Michael Vick returning look for him to return to the shadows once more. Avoid him if you can.
Some under the radar guys I’d also like to mention this week are Greg Olsen vs BUF, James Jones vs DAL, and LeSean McCoy vs IND.
Good luck this week everyone.
