Breaking News: Clippers Aren’t Very Good

Posted By Donovan Williams On Nov 6 2010 @ 3:56 pm In Los Angeles Clippers | No Comments

I imagine if I have been writing about the Clippers for 30 years, I’d get used to writing the same thing about two weeks into the season. But this my first go at the Clippers, so I figure this is as good of a time as any to survey the state of the team.

Let’s start with the talent on the floor. Make no mistake, there is talent on the floor. Blake Griffin is exactly what we thought he was. A stud. He’s second amongst NBA rookies in PPG (18) and first in RPG (10). If he can stay healthy and continue to put up a double-double every night, we will be talking about Blake Griffin as an all-star next year.

Eric Gordon has also played well. His role has increased since Baron Davis, more on him later, hurt his knee. Gordon is averaging over 20 points a game and shooting very well from the field at 49%. He does need to shoot better from beyond the arc. Shooting at 19% from  3-point land for a shooting guard with a career 3-point shooting percentage of 37% must not last.

Chris Kaman thus far has been out of sorts. I think he is not comfortable yet finding his rhythm in the offense with Griffin as a more athletic post presence. Kaman needs to learn how to fit in with Griffin now being the man.

Now onto Baron Davis. Davis is not a good fit for this team, he’s not a floor general and it would do the Clippers some good find a team that he can be traded to.

But they won’t.

The Clippers will continue to meander along missing the playoffs yet again.
