Georgia Bulldogs are back to .500 with a easy 55-7 win over FCS opponent Idaho State. Yes, this was a ‘money’ game. What’s a ‘money’ game - a FBS (formerly Division 1-A) team playing a FCS (formerly Division 1-AA) team. These are not home-home series, but a chance for the FBS team to play an easy team and the FCS team picking up a nice paycheck. Most likely, it will be the only time these two teams will ever play.
There’s really no use in dissecting game statistics from today’s game. Idaho St. is no Appalachian St. as they came into Athens with a 7 game losing streak. Georgia head coach Mark Richt played 74 players – some for the very first time. Starting QB Aaron Murray threw 3 touchdown passes including two to WR A.J. Green as he played only the first half. Backup QB Hutson Mason played the 2nd half and completed 3 of 8 passes for 41 yards.
At halftime, Georgia honored the 1980 National Championship team as this game was more of a intrasquad scrimmage than a college football game. Georgia’s season has been disappointing so far, but they do face a 10-0 Auburn Tigers team next week in which the intensity will pick back up after today’s game.
