Indiana Suffers Tough Loss To Iowa

The Indiana Hoosiers (4-4) hosted the Iowa Hawkeyes (6-2) today at Memorial Field in Bloomington, Indiana. The Hawkeyes beat the Hoosiers 18-13. This was a disappointing loss for the Hoosiers because up until the fourth quarter, they played just as well as the Haweyes.
Iowa’s Michael Meyer kicked a 23-yard field goal to put the first three points on the board. Indiana answered with a field goal of their own with seven minutes left on the clock in the first quarter. Mitch Ewald kicked a 37-yard field goal to tie the game. In the second quarter, Meyer once again through for the Hawkeyes and kicked a 27-yard field goal. A couple minutes later, Ewald comes out for his second field goal, this one a 28-yard attempt to even the score.
What a surprise, the second half starts off with another 27-yard field goal by Meyer. With less than a minute to go in the third quarter, Indiana quarterback, Ben Chappell, had enough of field goals and took it upon himself to rush for 1-yard for a touchdown. Ewald then came in to kick the extra point. This touchdown put the Hoosiers ahead 13-9. In the fourth quarter, Meyer kicked a 42-yard field goal to cut Indiana’s lead to one point. With under three minutes to go, Iowa scored a touchdown. Their two-point conversion attempt failed but the touchdown was enough for the Hawkeyes to take over the game.
This game marked the last time that Chappell, along with fifteen others would wear their IU uniforms at home. It was a tough loss for the entire Hoosier team but they will take the week to reorganize their offensive and defensive strategies. The road ahead will be a hard one for the Hoosiers as they prepare to go to Camp Randall to face the No. 9 Wisconsin Badgers.
