Just when things started to look alot like last season and the season before, the Stars go and do something that’s been completely unheard of and win three games in a row. For the second time so far this season I might add.
The Stars put up two real stinkers back to back. Both 5-2 losses to the Ducks and the Kings. Combined with a 1-0 loss to Nashville previously and things were beginning to really slide. You could feel the season deflating. A hot start and things were looking like the same ol same ol of what we’ve been growing accustom to. Is this Stars team different ? Of course they are, they’re on a three game winning streak. All legit wins where they actually outplayed their opponent for the most part.
The first coming at home vs Buffalo. Both teams went with their backups. Andrew Raycroft looked like he was worth alot more than what Nieuwendyk signed him to and the Stars prevailed 4-0. The Stars outshot the Sabres for most of the game, though the Sabres pressured late and caught up in the shots department, it wasn’t nearly enough.
The second, another home victory vs the Pittsburgh Penguins. A real chippy game saw the Stars pound the Pens 5-2. I didn’t want to talk about Sidney Crosby at all, but it’s fair to mention that he was held off of the scoresheet. He did manage to take his frustrations out on Matt Niskanen a little, but we all know that poor Matty has enough trouble fighting to get his jersey over his shoulder pads and he’s not much of a fighter at all. So really, it was much ado about nothing. Despite what the media would like everyone to believe, the REAL highlight in this game was Loui Eriksson’s penalty shot. The only person in the building he didn’t completely deke out of their shorts was himself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNOwtoapzFI
The third win in a row came tonight at home vs Tipps and the Yotes. Another big night for Loui Eriksson gives him seven points in his last two games. Brad Richards and Mike Ribeiro had three points each in the game. Bolds very well for my draft as I have all three, plus James Neal. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead 5 minutes into the second stance and never looked back, holding on for a 6-3 win.
The Stars have now put together win streaks of four games and three games. As previously mentioned, they weren’t able to put together one single win streak of more than two. Obviously a main reason the team failed to make the playoffs for a second year in a row. Yes so far, things are different.
Next up : Saturday in Colorado
