Nebraska escapes in overtime

It was not pretty, but a win is a win. Nebraska avoided a scare to win 31-30 on the road. Down a point, Cyclones coach Paul Rhoads decided to end the game right there. It seemed to hold up in the wind just long enough to give DB Eric Hagg a chance of intercepting it. What a way to end a rivalry between these two schools. Quarterback Taylor Martinez did not start this week, which might be the reason fans do not see the big numbers on the scoreboard. I thought Cody Green was efficient for playing only two games in the last two years. He pretty much did everything, for a third starter, which was asked of him. Nebraska overwhelmingly ran the ball the first half. Rex Burkhead and Roy Helu Jr. really kept Nebraska close in the first half.

The Blackshirts did a good job against an experienced quarterback. Even though, Austen Arnaud threw for three touchdowns, he was picked off twice which resulted in points both times for Nebraska. In addition, a costly fumble for Iowa State in Nebraska territory helped change to momentum. This defense has been making plays all season long. Their points allowed is frankly an overlooked stat in this case. It does just enough to help Nebraska win.

Again, turnovers almost killed the Cornhuskers. Five fumbles from all around the field still show that this team can cough up the ball. Luckily, only two were lost. I really want to see Bo Pelini be very strict about fumbles. If this team is a BCS contender, it should have corrected this problem. Nebraska should jump up to No. 5 in the BCS Standings and is currently projected in the Fiesta Bowl as the Big 12 Champions.
