East Coastin Blues

Bruins forward David Krejci sustained a concussion during Saturday night’s game after getting hit by St. Louis Blues’ forward TJ Oshie. Oshie has an uncanny ability to throw a players weight against themselves when they’re lining him up for a hit. He did it to Chara Saturday night also and anyone can remember him thumping Columbus superstar forward Rick Nash multiple times. He’s been doing it his entire hockey career dating back to his days at UND. For 5’11 180 lbs, he packs a serious punch. His hits aren’t dirty either. He pivots his skates perpendicular to the direction of the opposing players force at the very last split second and leans into his unsuspecting victims. Few opponents in the west take runs at him anymore. Vladimir Sobotka is also a smaller player whom is one of the better hitters in the league. Saturday night’s game in Boston was nothing short of a slugfest. Both teams were hitting hard and frequently. Considering they meet twice a season it is hard to believe that they were playing with this kind of ferocity. Two fights didn’t seem fitting for such a game as Janssen didn’t get into a scrap, even though it was his first game back. I wish the Bruins and Blues would face off again this year in St. Louis.
Speaking of fights, Prust and Janssen were never on the ice at the same time in New York last night. This is surprising. These two have a colorful history and the garden fans really could have used something to energize them. Getting a shutout from Conklin was surprising. Biron getting the third star was even more surprising. I’m not sure what the cameras picked up, but there were at least three different times where Biron fell to the ice when the play wasn’t even near him. He was very jittery and wasn’t even near the top of his crease for the Steen goal. Although he wasn’t taking the body as much as I would like to see, Johnson was brilliantly positioned in all situations both Saturday and Sunday as he constantly frustrates other teams’ forwards with his huge wingspan.
