Notre Dame Football: Tuesday Links

Back from the bye week. Hope ya’ll enjoyed your little vacation from frustration, I know we did. Three more weeks to go in year one of the Brian Kelly era, and probably only one more win on the schedule. I know, you’ve missed us for the last week so heres a gigantic helping on links…

Brian Kelly has officially been indoctrinated to what being the Head Coach of Notre Dame football really means – South Bend Tribune [1]

Lou Holtz had similar words for the embattled head man this week. Seems like all the former coaches are welcoming Kelly into a fraternity that’s unlike any other in sports. That’s good see. But look, it’s not the end of the world that this season has been poor and, presumably, will have the Irish sitting at home during bowl week. This team had an 8 win ceiling, and that was if everything broke right. What’s concerning about the season is not the losses, but the type of losses. There doesn’t seem to be any progress from the Weis era and the beginning of the Kelly era. The losses are similar in both in – game nature and opponents. Navy at a neutral site is a game that should be a win. Tulsa in South Bend has to be a victory. Both were losses, one was a blow out. At the end of the day, it’s unfair to judge Kelly until he has three recruiting classes on the roster. But the early returns haven’t been encouraging.

Manti Te’o – a Bednarick Award semifinalist – South Bend Tribune [4]

This is the award for the best defensive player in the country. I’m pleasantly surprised Te’o is nominated…Maybe it’s the time we live in -  In fact, it’s definitely the time we live in – but is Manti Te’o underrated because of the team he plays on? I say yes. He makes an atrocious defense look bad. Imagine what he’d do on a good defense? He’s the best linebacker in the country and will make a heck of a living in the NFL. If he went to a USC, or even a Penn State, he’d be on magazine covers and, more importantly, be a shoo – in for the award

Tommy Rees certainly won’t be the best QB on the field this week. He’s probably not even the second best – South Bend Tribune [5]

Enjoy the rest of Tuesday. 4 days until Utah
