Final: Knicks(3-5)- 117 Warriors(6-2)- 122
High Scorers: Warriors- David Lee 28 points 10 rebounds Knicks- Amar’e Stoudemire- 33 points 10 rebounds
On a night when the New York will kindly welcome David Lee back to the garden, the Knicks will show no mercy toward him and the Warriors in a game that feels like a must win.
After coming off two poor efforts earlier in the week, the Knicks seek a win against Golden State to get back on track. Yesterday I had posted that Monta Ellis would be sitting this one out with a sprained back although it looks as if Monta is feeling well enough to play tonight. As Kelly Tripuka stated last night, expect the Knicks to come out fired up tonight. The Knicks and Warriors are two teams who are known for their high scoring.
Early in the game, the Knicks did not diappoint. As we figured, they came out flying all over the court, dunking the ball, and picking up steals left and right. Just as the Knicks were fired up, so was David lee. The Knicks seemed to have no answer for their formed player who put up 12 points in the first. At the half the warriors led by 4, which is a huge improvement from last night’s debockle. We know that the Warriors can light up the scoreboard, but the Knicks will need to establish a defensive presence to limit teams high scoring teams.
For the majority of the third quarter the Knicks began to fall behind and looked as if they were getting right back into the same routine again. Down by seventeen at one point, the Knicks realized they were in need of a run. The Knicks went on a 15-0 run in the third capped off by a four point play from Ray Felton to get themselves back into the game.
The Knicks put together an impressive run in the fourth quarter yet it is not enough to hold off the Warriors who win their second road game in a row. The Knicks who live and die by the three pointer certainly did not flourish from beyond the ark tonight. When they would commit to post play and bring the ball to the hoop they were very successful. Besides two late misses from Amar’e, the Knicks were phenomenal from the free throw line. Granted, if the Knicks hit some of their open threes they would have won this game, but it is important that they run the majority of their game through the post. Then they will live with the three’s that they hit and miss.
Toward the end of the first quarter, during a timeout, the Knicks acknowledged David Lee with a highlight “thank you” video. David seemed to be a big emotional, even after claiming that he did not appreciate how the Knicks handled his free agency.
Next Game: Friday @ Minnesota
