THE DUCKS SQUISH THE FISH

Despite the fact that Predator’s Coach, Barry Trotz, has been behind the Nashville Predators’ bench for 915 NHL games, he was unable to will his team to a victory on Sunday night.  The Ducks got the W versus the Preds in a not-so-pretty game in which Paul Mara thrilled the Honda Center with a goal in the remaining 1.7 seconds.

Fresh off their last second win, and with a three game winning streak under their belts, the Ducks traveled up north once again to face off against the last team they lost to, the Joe Thornton-less San Jose Sharks. Without their number one scoring threat, the Sharks were thwarted in their ability to put as many pucks in the net as the last time the division rivals met up.

The game started off fast-paced with the Sharks’ Torrey Mitchell, scoring off the forecheck less than two minutes in. Very shortly thereafter, George Parros and Frazer McLaren cashed in on 5 penalty box minutes after they dropped their mitts to spin each other around and wildly jab their right arms at each other’s heads only to knock their helmets off and mess their hair up.  For the two teams that lead the NHL in Penalty Infraction Minutes, this first scuffle looked promising for the remaining 58 minutes to come.  Three goals later and not much else excitement, the teams went to over time in what was overall a quiet and sloppy game.

The Ducks were saved once again by ever-consistent defensemen, Lubomir Visnovsky.  Visnovsky is tied for second in the NHL in scoring among defensemen.  After an important face-off win by Saku Koivu, Visnovsky teed it up at the blue line to rocket one past netminder, Antero Nitttymaki, for the game-winning goal.   Ducks are now on a season high 4 game win streak and are returning home tomorrow to host the NY Islanders for Military Appreciation Night at 7:05 and the Dallas Stars on Friday.

In other news, the Penguins have been struggling of late and at times, look like they’re still in pre-season.  Their next game is at home tomorrow versus last year’s Winter Classic winners, the Boston Bruins.

If you need a turkey and like the Ducks, now through November 21st, if you purchase a turkey from a Southern California Smart and Final, you’ll get a voucher for two tickets to a select Ducks’ home game in the month of December.
