Week 10 Preview: Ravens vs. Falcons

Posted By Frisco Fahs On Nov 10 2010 @ 12:54 pm In Baltimore Ravens | No Comments

The Baltimore Ravens travel to Atlanta to play the Falcons on Thursday night. Both teams are 6-2 and came of victories. Atlanta had a big game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers and increased their lead in the NFC South.

Offense: Edge Falcons

Atlanta seems to be clicking a little bit more than the Ravens are on offense. It’s not that the Ravens have a bad offense, it’s just the Matt Ryan to Roddy White connection has been one of the best quarterback to wide receiver combo in the league thus far. Also, they have a great running back in Michael Turner and a Hall of Fame type tight end Tony Gonzalez. The Ravens are looking better on offense every week with the health of Ray Rice improving each week. Joe Flacco is improving on his turnovers and Anquan Boldin is proving to be a great addition in the Ravens offense.

Defense: Edge Ravens

Every week, it seems like a default answer to have the edge to Ravens on defense. It’s not my fault; they’re playing lights out on defense. The Ravens are starting to create turnovers with the return of Ed Reed. Since Reed has returned from injury, the Ravens’ defense created seven turnovers in two games. In the first six weeks, they only created five turnovers. Atlanta is ranked 19th in total defense and 26th in the league against the pass.

Special Teams: Edge Ravens

Neither team has a great return game and both teams are good at covering returns. Neither team has an extremely dangerous return man to really game plan for with directional kicking. However, the Falcons seem to give up big plays on special teams. Just last week, they gave up a 89 yard kickoff return for a touchdown to Michael Spurlock. That kickoff was muffed and was still returned for a touchdown

Prediction:  Ravens 28, Falcons 24

Falcons are at home and just came of a big NFC South victory over the Buccaneers but the Ravens are just a better overall football team.  Falcons are a very good football team and are probably going to make the playoffs. This will be the Ravens toughest test this season. They have a short week and have to travel to Atlanta. The Falcons are 4-0 at home. Playing in the Georgia Dome is not going to be easy.
