‘Bama looks to scoop up win over Bulldogs

With the thoughts of back-to-back national championships now a thing of the past, the 11th ranked Alabama Crimson Tide play the first of three straight home games beginning this Saturday night (6:15 p.m. Central Time) when the 17th ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs visit Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Alabama has won 18 consecutive games in Tuscaloosa.
After last Saturday’s 24-21 loss at LSU, Alabama now looks to put together a string of three straight wins in hopes of still making a BCS bowl game.
In a series that Alabama has dominated (Alabama leads 72-18-3), the Bulldogs will look to use last weekend’s bye to their advantage. MSU’s last game was a 24-17 victory over Kentucky on Oct. 30.
Mississippi State (7-2, 3-2) enters the contest averaging 219 yards a game on the ground, while only allowing 17 points a game.
Running back Vick Ballard paces the Bulldogs with 619 yards and 12 touchdowns, while quarterback Chris Relf is second on the team with 507 yards. Relf has only attempted 131 passes all season, leaving the Bulldogs ranked 101st in the country, averaging just 165 yards a game via the air.
On defense, MSU allows just over 115 yards a game, meaning both Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson will have their work cut out for them in leading ‘Bama’s ground attack.
