Crimson Tide puts MSU in dog house, rolls 30-10

After a disappointing 24-21 loss last weekend to LSU that essentially killed Alabama’s hopes of a shot at repeating as national champions, the Crimson Tide had two ways to turn.

First, they could make something of the last three games of the season and play with pride. Secondly, ‘Bama could play out the string of games and look to next season.

With a 30-10 win over SEC Western Division rival Mississippi State in Tuscaloosa Saturday evening, Alabama (8-2, 5-2) indicated it planned to show up for the final three regular season tilts.

In front of more than 101,000 fans at Bryant-Denny Stadium, 12th ranked ‘Bama held a 6-3 lead in the first half, then rolled to 24 straight points before MSU (7-3) got a late fourth quarter touchdown to make the score a little more respectable.

Coming out early in the fourth quarter to an ovation from the home crowd, senior QB Greg McElroy finished the night going 12-of-18 for 227 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Junior running back Mark Ingram rushed for 53 yards, while adding a career-long 78-yard touchdown reception.

Meantime, wide receivers Marquis Maze and Julio Jones added TD receptions, as Alabama prepares to host former head coach Bill Curry and Georgia State this coming Thursday night (6:30 p.m. Central Time, ESPNU).

With Auburn raising its record to 11-0 in a 49-31 win over Georgia, Alabama would like nothing better on Nov. 26 than to spoil the Tigers’ dream season as the two meet in the Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa.
