East Coast trip ends with the Rockets winning 2 out 3. Riding their first win streak of the season, Rockets are starting to click on all cylinders and building some team chemistry. The big turn around point for the Rockets, I believe, was the overtime loss they suffered to the Spurs. Since then the Rockets have won 3 out 4, and have allowed only 95 points per game to their opponents. In all 3 wins the Rockets have score more than a 100 points.
Tonight Rockets locked up their 3rd win of the season against the New York Knicks, 104-96. Chuck Hayes played an excellent defensive game for the Rockets. A lot of times his defensive play goes unnoticed and does not get the credit he deserves, along with that his efforts do not show up in the box score. Rockets seemed to be in control through out the game, up 6 at the half and a critical point in the 3rd quarter where they finished on 14-4 run, going into the 4th quarter with a 9 point lead. They built the lead to 18 points and never looked back. After the first quarter the Rockets gave up only 70 points in the final 3 quarters. In the past 2 road games the Rockets have looked impress in the 4th quarter finding ways to close the ball game to add on to the win column.
The biggest stat for the Rockets win against the Knicks, 28 assists on 36 made baskets! That’s huge for the Rockets! Adelman’s offense finally seems to be coming into form. As I stated the question previously, who was going to step up for the Rockets besides Scola and Martin on the offensive end? Friday night we saw Brad Miller pour in a big game against his former team finishing up with 23 points along with 8 rebounds, and Kyle Lowry who looks great thus far after returning from injury recorded 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Tonight against the Knicks, Courtney Lee put in 12 points for Rockets to secure the victory.
Kyle Lowry has been big for the Rockets in the past two games. He keeps the offense running for the Rockets and keeps the team poised in big situations of the game. With Aaron Brooks out 3-5 more weeks, this is the time for Lowry to show doubters and the public why he deserved the contract he received this past summer. If Rockets continue to have success with Lowry running the show for the Rockets, does Adelman continue to start Lowry when Brooks returns from injury? That’s going to be a tough decision for the team. More importantly the Rockets gained chemistry and momentum heading back home now where they have struggled a bit, but hopefully the success they conquered on the 3 game road trip will translate at home, as the Rockets push to get back to .500.
Ankle injuries contine to haunt the Rockets, now Budinger is added to the list of ankle sprains next to Yao Ming and Aaron Brooks.
Rockets will take on the Bulls, Tuesday night at Toyota Center looking for their 4th win of the season and 3rd straight win.
