Ladislav Smid’s ego isn’t the only thing that sustained bruising, following his impromtu dance with New York Rangers’ dirt ball, Sean Avery last Sunday.
The Edmonton Oilers’ D-man was placed on Injured Reserve by the team Tuesday afternoon, having been diagnosed with concussion symptoms.
That thud you just heard was likely the collective jaws dropping of Sean Avery “pest” apologists out there, searching for a place to hide – and so they should!
Smid, who was pummelled during the third period of Sunday’s game, when Avery lunged at the lanky Edmonton blueliner, landing an unsuspecting blow to Smid’s face, after allegedly declining Smid’s request to fight.
The Oil have since called up Shawn Belle from the club’s AHL Oklahoma City franchise to fill in for Smid.
Currently, Belle has tallied 15 points in the “A” for the Oil Barons.
J.F. Jacques has also been summoned from OK City, with both players expected to start tonight against the visiting Chicago Blackhawks. Jacques, an imposing forward, underwent back surgery last year.
Edmonton Head Coach Tom Renney will be crossing his fingers that Jacques’ back is completely healed and the Quebec-born player is ready to bring an edge to an otherwise soft lineup.
