The Dallas Stars held up their end of the bargain Tuesday vs the Anaheim Ducks. They scored just two goals. The exact number of goals they managed to score in each of the previous two meetings this season. The difference was, they only gave up one this time.

They looked pretty disinterested so far this season against the Ducks and were heading into the game on a three game skid. In contrast, the Ducks have been hot as of late and though coming off a 3-2 OT loss to the Hawks, they had previously won six in a row. There wasn’t a whole lot that said the Stars would come out on top in this one.

Steve Ott opened the scoring late in the first with a powerplay goal as he broke in on a partial breakaway after a feed from Brad Richards. Corey Perry tied it almost halfway through the middle frame with a powerplay goal of his own. But the offensive catalyst for the Stars did what he does best and put the offense on his back. Coming down the left side, he managed to squeeze a shot though Jonas Hiller’s shortside. The puck bounced off the post and dropped to the ice before Hiller turned and scooped it with his glove. But the replay showed the puck managed to cross the line by just a couple hairs.

In a chippy, penalty filled affair at the AAC, the Stars got the goaltending they needed as birthday boy Kari Lehtonen turned aside 26 of 27 shots, including a brilliant glove save  on a shorthanded breakaway by Todd Marchant after Mike Ribeiro gave him the puck right at the Ducks blueline.

The Stars are sitting sitting around where they were this time last season. The difference is, this year has been very streaky. They look like world beaters and have everything go right for three games, then can’t seem to do anything right or have anything go right  the following three. Whereas last season it was pretty much win one lose one win one lose one.

Hopefully they can build on this big win against the Ducks and continue it against San Jose on Thursday. That would only make sense if they did now, wouldn’t it ?

Next Up : Thursday November 18 ( my birthday ) at home vs the Sharks
