Bulls Are Alive And Well For The Big East Title

It’s November and that means only one thing, South Florida is losing and falling apart. Wait a minute, that was under Jim Leavitt, it’s a whole new ballgame under first year head coach Skip Holtz. Take nothing away from Leavitt, he built the program from the ground up, but let’s face it his teams were undisciplined and faded fast in recent years. That is the polar opposite with the Bulls of 2010. Everyone knows all about the Bulls misery in November, it was a month that South Florida would always like to forget. South Florida football had nothing to be thankful for, but they do now with son of Lou on the sidelines. Only once before have the Bulls been in contention for the Big East championship this late in the season, that was back in 2005 when they traveled to Connecticut. If the Bulls beat Pitt. on Saturday ( noon kickoff in Tampa ) they’ll be tied for first in the conference and in position with one game left to be no worse than co-champs. Since joining the Big East in 2005, South Florida haven’t finished higher than tied for third place. They were tied for fifth last year and in 2008 finished sixth in the conference. It will be a tough task because the Pittsburgh Panthers are invading Tampa and are coming off a loss in Hartford against Connecticut.
Pitt currently sits atop the Big East standing at 3-1 but are 1-3 on the road in 2010. USF is currently on a three game winning streak and is coming off an exciting overtime win at Louisville. The Bulls are riding high and quarterback B.J. Daniels is playing his best football of the season, his mistakes are few and far between. Remember the Bulls started Big East play at 0-2 and a lot of people were questioning what direction is this team going. The Bulls have turned things around after that rocky start, and are playing with lots of confidence and it showed last week when they won on the road. If that game was played earlier in the season, chances are the Bulls would have fallen short. South Florida has really matured during the course of the season. The “D” also created some turnovers in last week’s win against Louisville, something they haven’t done all season until last week. The special teams also came up big last week when Lindsey Lamar returned a kick for 100 yards, perhaps special teams could be the difference on Saturday against Pitt. Is this the Bulls biggest game in school history?
Vegas Line: Panthers favored by 3 points
All Time Series: Panthers 4-3 Including a 41-14 pouncing of the Bulls last year.
Prediction: Bulls 23 Panthers 20 ( I think special teams will be the difference )
