Knicks Snap Six Game Losing Streak

Posted By Justin Sammartano On Nov 18 2010 @ 1:05 am In New York Knicks | No Comments

Tonight the Knicks began a three game West Coast road stand with a trip to Sacramento.  The Knicks who are coming off a six game losing streak, once again started slow, yet this time were able to overcome the deficit and pull out a win.

Final Score:      NY Knicks (4-8) 113 Sacramento Kings (3-7) 106

It seems to be too early in the season to declare games as must wins, although in the case of the NY Knicks, they must put together a few wins after starting the season with a 3-8 record and compiling a six game losing streak. After a huge win tonight, the Knicks move on to Golden State and then LA to face the Warriors and Clippers before coming back East.

As we have become accustomed to, the Knicks have come out very slow and put together a poor offensive first quarter.  The Knicks are clearly struggling to put together an offensive skeem early in the game and are forced to play catch up.  Luckily for them tonight they play a team who is also struggling with their own five game losing streak so they were able to come out on top.  As we have seen recently with veteran teams such as the Nuggets or Rockets, the Knicks can not afford to rely on three quarters of strong play rather then four.

The Knicks who totaled just fourteen points in the first quarter were carried by a strong second quarter performance from Danilo Gallinari (15 points in 2nd) and were able to put forty points on the board.

The key to the Knicks victory was simple.  The took just fifteen three pointers and attacked the hoop on almost every possession.  Clearly they have not been able to shoot the long ball as they are known for and it is important for them to attack the basket and limit long distance shots as much as possible.  It is disappointing that it took them seven games to figure that out, though the season is still early and if they begin to shoot well they can become a very dangerous team.

The Knicks were led by Stoudemire and Gallinari who both had twenty-seven points. Amar’e also added ten rebounds to his stat sheet.  The Kings were led by their young gun Tyreke Evans who had twenty-three points.

  • Timofey Mozgov was taken out of the starting line-up, replaced by Ronnie Turiaf.
  • Anthony Randolph did not play tonight.
  • Gallinari looked as though he had found his stroke tonight, season high 27 points.
  • Upcoming games:  Friday 19th @ Golden State Warriors.   Saturday 20th @ LA Clippers
