Penn State will battle Indiana at FedEx Field in the nation’s capital on Saturday in its first regular season neutral site game since 1959. The Nittany Lions are playing their third historic game in a row. The first, JoePa’s 400th win which came over Northwestern, was by far the high-point of the season. Last weekend, an epic second-half collapse against Ohio State showed just how much more work they need to do.
Now, with a 6-4, 3-3 record, PSU will try to salvage what’s left of this season.
As Mike Ditka says, “If you have two quarterbacks, you don’t have any quarterbacks.” Flip-flopping between Rob Bolden and Matt McGloin hasn’t done them any favors. What bothers me even more is the lack of an effective defense. When did Linebacker U relocate?
The heat is being dialed up on JoePa, however, just in time for his visit, the House passed a resolution which “Congratulates Joe Paterno for his success with both the Penn State football program and the University, resulting in 400 wins as head coach, and for setting an on- and off-the-field example of honor, success, integrity, and respect.” The resolution passed 417-3, with the three haters being Louise Slaughter (D, NY-28), Peter DeFazio (D, OR-4) and Jason Chaffetz (R, UT-3). The Republican is a bit of a surprise given Paterno’s off-field support for the GOP, which, I will point out, has been kept very much off the field.
We’ll see which Penn State team shows up in DC and if the Nittany Lions can at least end on a high note in their last two games.
