Chargers Vs. Broncos Preview

The Broncos are coming to San Diego to play our Chargers on Monday night football. The 4-5 Chargers are looking to win a very important division game against the the 3-6 Broncos. The Broncos are a very inconsistent team. They can score 49 points one week against the Chiefs and score 14 and 17 points the two weeks prior to that. Kyle Orton is having a good season putting fantasy numbers along with Brandon Lloyd(968 YDs 6 TDs) but they do not scare me very much to win a game against the Chargers. The Chargers really need to come out strong this game and hopefully not fall behind like they have so far this year. This game is to important, and in being prime time Chargers don’t want to start slow and not have the crowd in the game 100%. Remember Charger fans it was just over a year ago when the Broncos came to San Diego and beat our Chargers on Monday night 34-23. The good news for the Chargers is it is now late November and December is right around the corner and the Chargers do not loose this time of year.
The Broncos have been inconsistent on offense this year, but they have been consistently bad on defense this season. With the Chargers number one offense going up against a Broncos Defense that is 25th in total defense and 19th in pass defense and 30th in rush defense in the NFL. The Chargers should have no problem moving up and down the field and hopefully putting the ball in the end zone multiple times. Obviously Jamal williams is not the player he once was with the Broncos being 30th in rush defense. Looks like the Chargers made the right move in letting him go. While Antonio Garay has been an absolute beast for the Chargers eating up blockers in the middle of that D-line. The Broncos do have some pretty good weapons on offense with Lloyd, Royal, and Moreno coming off his best game of the season rushing for over 100 yards. The Chargers defense will need to get good pass rush against the throw happy Broncos. Hopefully they will become predictable on offense if the Chargers are playing with a lead. The Chargers defense has had one turnover in the last five games, that one coming against Houston to seal the game. It would be nice to see at least one this week at home.
On the injury front, it looks like Ryan Mathews will probably not play with the high ankle sprain. It is not certain but even if he does suit up he will be very limited. I heard Hank Bower say on the radio this week- “If Ryan Mathews has been playing injured the whole season with his elbow and ankle, I can’t wait to see what he can do when he is healthy.” I totally agree, he has impressed me since game one. Mathews has not had that 100 plus yard game or three touchdown performance to bring the Chargers fans on his band wagon, but if you watch him run he has great ability to run threw tackles and the acceleration to get through the holes. Also Antonio Gates will definitely not be at full speed this week but I would expect him to play. This is nothing new for Rivers, as we all know the Chargers have been injured at the skill positions all season long. It will be on Rivers once again and whoever gets an opportunity, to make it happen on Monday.
Weekly prediction- Chargers 38 Broncos- 24
Season prediction- Chargers 10-6
