Leafs Nation: RIP Pat Burns
Posted By Mike De Petrillo On Nov 19 2010 @ 7:38 pm In Toronto Maple Leafs | No Comments
As the Maple Leafs make their way to Montreal to face the Canadiens, the hockey fraternity finds itself one member less with the passing of NHL coach Pat Burns.
The Stanley Cup winner lost his lengthy battle with cancer today, and it is with sadness that I write this piece.
A fierce competitor, tough disciplinarian and leader of men, Pat Burns will be missed by fans, players and media alike. My fondest memory of the former Leaf head coach occurred during the memorable 1993 playoff run, where in the heat of battle Burns did his darndest to visit his counterpart Barry Melrose on the Kings bench – mid game.
It was this passion that endeared Burns to those who watch hockey – truly one of a kind.
Fittingly two of Burns’ former teams square off on national television tomorrow night; bet on one of the stirring tributes CBC does best – Coach ‘pat’ deserves it.
Coming off three inspired performances in the last 7 days, the Leafs look to make it 3 in a row against the rival Habs.
-Nice to see Kris Versteeg having success; it wasn’t for lack of effort that saw the talented winger struggle in the early going this season.
-Nazem Kadri has found some success on the wing since being recalled from the Marlies last week; get your feet wet in the NHL on the wing Naz – Leafs Nation needs you up the middle next year!
-Encouraging news that Dion Phaneuf is on the mend after the nasty gash he suffered against the Senators. Looking forward to the big Captain getting back on the ice soon.
-I’m looking forward to seeing just how cocky this PK Subban really is; Flyers captain Mike Richards is obviously not a fan.
Albeit with a heavy heart, enjoy the game Leafs fans.
