The San Francisco 49ers Will try to make it 3 in a row

Is this the beginning of a 49ers run for the playoffs? A win this weekend will give them 3 wins in a row and 4 on the season. Couple that with loses from the other 3 NFC West teams, a real possibility I might add, and the 49ers will move into 2nd place and one game behind Seattle for the lead in the West.
But I am getting ahead of myself. What do the 49ers need to do to win THIS weekend over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
To start, they need to keep building on the momentum they have created over the last 2 games. They are playing the type of football that was expected at the beginning of the year; run the ball, play strong defense and don’t make mistakes.
Troy Smith’s play is highlighting why the Baltimore Ravens picked him four years ago. In the last two games he has thrown for 552 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. He has also rushed for 14 yards and one touchdown. This shows that, while he is a mobile quarterback, he is looking to throw the ball before he runs with it.
Over the same 2 game stretch, RB Frank Gore has rushed for 205 yards and a touchdown.
The offense did take a hit last week when LT Joe Staley went down with a broken leg against the Rams. He will be out for 4-6 weeks. It’s not clear who will start at left tackle, but it would be interesting to see if coach Mike Singletary moves rookie Anthony Davis over. That would make the left side of the line consist of two rookies with Mike Iupati at left guard.
Last Sunday’s hero Joe Nedney will also be out on Sunday. An MRI revealed a right knee strain and a bone bruise. The 49ers have signed kicker Shane Andrus to a one year contract. He will be handling the kicking duties on Sunday.
The 49ers defense will have to play tough and punishing defense. The Tampa Bay Buc’s come to town with the 19th ranked passing attack and 14th ranked rushing attack. While these are not elite numbers, TB LeGarrette Blount runs very tough and can hurdle a tackler as easily as he can run through one. After his DUI arrest Thurday night, it seems that rookie WR Mike Williams will be playing on Sunday. He leads the team with 627 yards receiving and 5 touchdowns. He also leads all rookies in yards receiving and is tied for first in touchdowns.
This will not be a “gimme” game for the 49ers, but it is definitely winnable. And they will need to win if they want to keep their playoff dreams alive.
