Let’s “BEAT LA” – NHL style

This was one of my “Top 10 Games” I wanted to see this year. I like how the Kings have been built and their style of play. Also, I’m hoping it will be a treat to watch drew Doughty on the back line for LA.
As many puckheads know by now, the hockey world lost a true character yesterday. Pat Burns was the ultimate fighter but his fight with cancer ended yesterday. He couldn’t beat cancer three times and that says alot about the man and his toughness when that evil disease takes many people the first time it is diagnosed.
As far as the organization is concerned, Cam Neely made a statement last night on the subject of Pat’s passing.
From the Bruins website..
Burns coached 254 games behind the Bruins bench from May 21, 1997 to Oct. 25, 2000. He won the Jack Adams Trophy as the league’s top coach following the 1997-98 season, one of only three coaches in club history to earn that honor.
He was only 58 years young. I never got to meet Pat Burns but having witnessed a few press conferences lately, I’m betting his was a show
If I may speak for our website from all of us here, especially the NHL writers, all of our condolences to the Burns family. You lost a good man who deserved a better exit from Boston.
Marc Savard is back to non contact practce with the team too. A couple of quotes from this morning’s press conference…
On how good it felt to be out with the rest of the boys skating…
It felt unbelievable. You know it’s been a long time. You know it’s pretty special to be… To make it to this step, and hopefully gradually get better and go from there;
On how he’s been feeling over the last couple of weeks…
Fantastic. I would say for about two or three weeks now that I really haven’t felt any ill effects and things are heading in the right direction, that’s for sure.
Once I have starting lineups I will post them here but Tim Thomas was first off the ice this morning indicating he will get the nod between the pipes
