Islanders go down to 12th straight defeat; when will they win?

While you can’t fault the recent effort of the New York Islanders, it is hard to find something good to say about the end result.

Saturday night on Long Island was no different, as the Isles suffered their 12th straight defeat, the second in a row for new head coach Jack Capuano. In their 4-1 loss to Florida, the Islanders continued to play with emotion at times, but not see the ‘W’ they were looking for.

Mike Santorelli tallied a pair of Florida’s four goals in a 7:54 span of the second period after trailing 1-0, and the Panthers cruised from there.

With the latest setback, the Islanders (40-31 advantage in shots) have gone 0-11-1 in their past 12 games, tallying only 11 goals in the last 10 along the way.

Matt Moulson registered the only tally for the Islanders (4-12-3), who sit with an NHL-worst 11 points.

“We made a couple of key mistakes and had a couple of bad line changes,” Moulson commented to the Associated Press. “In order to score, we have to shoot pucks on net.”

While playing 12 of their first 17 games on the road, the Islanders are in a stretch now where they have only two road games over the next month, one of which is tonight (Sunday) in Atlanta.

Sometimes you can say that getting away from home and bonding as a team can lead to some wins, but not quite sure that will even work with this team.

Islanders goaltender Dwayne Roloson made have stated it best afterwards, noting to NHL.com [2], “ I think as a team we need to take it upon ourselves to look in the mirror and look at ourselves and see if we have done enough to win a hockey game tonight. (We need to) be on and be ready to go for the guys standing beside you and do whatever it takes to win a hockey game, whether it’s blocking shots or getting sticks in lanes or stopping a puck that is going wide.”

If the Islanders are to salvage anything from this young season, they’d best start sooner rather than later.
