Knicks Win The Blake Griffin Invitational

Final Score:  NY Knicks- (6-8) 124 LA Clippers- (1-13) 115

On a night when Blake Griffin looked like he had spring boards on his shoes, dropped 44 points, and grabbed 15 rebounds, the Knicks managed to pull out their third consecutive win from this four game road trip.

Blake and Amar’e went back and forth all night long in what looked like a dunk contest, but the X factor in tonight’s contest was Danilo Gallinari.  Danilo, who has currently has a streak of making thirty-five consecutive free throws, continues to be a huge asset to the Knicks.  At the same time his shots are beginning to fall, he is learning to use his head fake to cause defenders to throw themselves in the air ultimately drawing fouls.  He has gotten to the line time after time, and the Clippers, along with other recent teams do not seam to have an answer for him.  The most valuable players in the league are the one who need to be guarded beyond the three point line yet are able to take the ball to the hole with conviction. Danilo had a season high 31 points tonight.

Now of course as a Knick fan you deserve to be flying high right now because your team is on a role. Be cautious. There are some things about this victory and the two victories prior to be wary about. First off, the Kings and the Clippers are two of the worst teams in the league, hands down.  These are teams the Knicks must beat day in and day out in order to even be competitive in the Eastern Conference. Second, the Warriors and the Clippers are both dealing with some key injuries that have made a huge difference.  For the Warriors, David Lee. For the Clippers, Baron Davis and Chris Kaman.  The Knicks did not blow out any of these teams.

That being said, Blake Griffin did have the game of his life and Monta Ellis had an unbelievable game as well.  You can not take away effort and focus that the Knicks are playing with right now.  They are clearly playing much smarter, limiting their turnovers and playing better team defense.  As the Knicks continue to mesh as a new team, when they shoot well, they will win.

I believe that the biggest test for the Knicks will be the next two games they play this season.  Next week the Knicks play two games against the Bobcats. One home and one away.  This will be a true test for the Knicks because the Bobcats are a team who on paper are almost evenly matched with the Knicks.  The Bobcats have played a little better then the Knicks thus far this season although the Knicks will be a tough competitor for them.  I believe this will be a huge statement from the Knicks if they can beat the Bobcats with conviction.

  1. The Knicks went from being on a six game losing steak to their current three game winning streak.
  2. Gallinari is beginning to play up to his potential.
  3. Amar’e and Felton are building a nice chemistry together.
  4. Mike D’antoni is a happy man.

Upcoming Games: Tues 23rd vs. Charlotte Bobcats    Wednesday 24th @ Charlotte Bobcats
