Minutemen Share the Wealth

Posted By Jeremy Frassa On Nov 22 2010 @ 11:25 pm In UMass | 1 Comment

Four UMass players scored in double digits as the Minutemen manhandled the TCU Horned Frogs 67-48. Anthoney Gurley, Sampson Carter, Freddie Riley, and Javorn Farrell all scored in double digits, with Anthoney Gurley leading the way with 14.

After the first few minutes of this game it looked like it was going to be a lot closer than it actually turned out to be. Both teams traded off big runs in the first 10 minutes of the first half. UMass was down 14-12 with a little over nine minutes to play in the half, but from that point on it was all UMass. The Minutemen went on a 19-2 run and would go into halftime with a 37-21 lead. The Minutemen led by as much as 26 points in the second half and would hold on easily to improve to 4-0.

Javorn Farrell had another big game for the Minutemen. He recorded 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals in 26 minutes. Anthoney Gurley led the Minutemen in scoring, with 14 points and shot 6-10 from the field. Sampson Carter had 10 points along with six rebounds. Freddie Riley recorded 10 points, with seven of those coming in the second half.

Gary Correia looked like he had seriously injured his ankle in the first half but he ended up coming back into the game before halftime. Gary played 19 minutes and hit back to back 3-pointers in the second half.

Daryl Traynham got into foul trouble early in the game and had a technical foul called against him. Traynham recorded five points, two rebounds and one assist in 10 minutes of play.

The Minutemen also saw contributions from Terrell Vinson (9 Points) and Hashim Bailey (6 Rebounds)

It was encouraging to see UMass win so solidly and not have any one player stand out. The Minutemen played solid defense and forced bad passes and bad shots. They have really stepped up their defense since season. They have got to be one of the most athletic teams in the country. They are so fast on both ends of the floor and when they go on runs, they are almost impossible to stop. UMass will need this speed and quickness in January when they begin Atlantic 10 play.

UMass will look to improve to 5-0 on Wednesday night when they take on AIC at the Mullins Center at 7 pm. It would be the first time since the 1995-1996 season that a UMass team would begin the season 5-0.
