No. 13 proves unlucky in yet another loss for the Islanders

They say that the number 13 is unlucky. For the New York Islanders, that certainly holds true.
The Islanders dropped their 13th straight game Sunday evening, a 2-1 OT loss in The Peach State to the Atlanta Thrashers, as Dustin Byfuglien (member of last year’s Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks) tallied the game-winner at 1:30 into overtime for the home team.
With the loss, New York (4-12-4) has its longest winless streak going back to 14 straight games without a win Feb. 13-March 15, 1990. That streak involved three ties.
“We had several chances to win,” New York’s Matt Moulson told the Associated Press afterwards. “We have to score goals. … You can’t take comfort in getting just one point.”
New York’s Michael Grabner knocked in a deflection with :13 remaining in the second period to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead.
New York goalie Rick DiPietro registered 33 saves and held Atlanta to one goal in regulation.
The bottom line, however, is that the Islanders once again left an arena without a victory.
With Columbus coming to Nassau Coliseum this Wednesday night (7 p.m. ET), the Islanders hope that number 14 is not in their cards.
