Look out! For the second week in a row the Falcons remain on top of many of the major media outlets power rankings with an impressive win on the road against the Rams. One important thing to note was the Falcons pass protection. Coming into the game, the Rams lead the NFL with sacks and hits on QB’s, but did not record a single sack or hit on Matt Ryan through out the game. Turner ran for over 100 yrds and wore down the d-line enough as he scored on a long run late in the 4th quarter to ice the game.
The Dirty Birds have separated themselves from the rest of the pack in the NFC and stand alone in first place. With that said, one would think that they would be blowing up the headlines and be all over the place on ESPN’s long list of networks, but no just the opposite. No one is talking about the first place birds, well except for me and a handful of bloggers. The game itself only got one highlight on ESPN’s “NFL Prime Time”. How can you ignore such a well balanced team that is a unanimous number one? Its hard to say.
Matt Ryan and the Falcons are right were they want to be; under the radar. How many number one teams in the history of the NFL have you heard about being under the radar? NFL coordinators won’t read about their balanced offense, see their defensive schemes, or watch their gimmick plays because they are not being replayed or printed by major news networks. Advantage Falcons. Hype motivates teams, and helps them prepare for a teams strengths and weaknesses. Without the hype, the Falcons have motivation to prove to the nation that they are indeed for real. But you won’t hear them say that. In a league of larger than life personalities, the Falcons are very soft spoken, letting their TD passes and bone crunching hits (Deshawn Jackson) do all the talking for them.
The big test and probably the hardest game left on their schedule is this weekend versus the Packers. Look for John Abraham to be 100% healthy and put pressure on Aaron Rogers early in the game. Falcons have that Dome Field Advantage which is a huge plus. I got the Dirty Birdies in a close one 28-26 over the Pack.
