He did it again. With so many weapons hurt or not at full speed, Philip Rivers went out and lead the Chargers to 35 points with four touchdown passes. I was at this game and it was a good one to be at. The Broncos came out quick and marched down the field to score on just five plays. Everyone around me said “what just happened?” Then the game turned on a fake punt with Scifres completing a 28 yard pass to a wide open Tolbert. From there the Chargers and Philip Rivers rolled over the Broncos. The Chargers defense looked really good. When they needed to make a big play that is exactly what they did. Shaun Phillips had a huge game with lots of pressure and plays in the backfield. Cooper had a solid game making some key tackles and batting down a couple passes. Cason also had a good game, yes his interception was thrown right to him but he made numerous plays on Monday night. The Chargers did have some things not go their way in this one as well. Patrick Crayton dislocated his wrist and will have to miss at least a few games if not the rest of the season with that injury. Also Malcom Floyd re-injured his hamstring and will be week to week on wether he will play or not. Vincent Jackson is going to be back in action against the Colts, although this is good news it will be hard for Rivers to feel comfortable with his receivers if they keep going in and out of the line up. Rivers really seemed to be gelling with Crayton and we all now how good Gates and Rivers are with each other. If both of them can’t play against the Colts next week Rivers will have to find a new favorite target and quick. One thing that really stood out this week for me was the O-line. McNeil is back to his pro bowl form and the line is playing very well together now that everyone is healthy and on the field playing.
Side Note- If you see some loser in field level 56 row 12 doing push-ups after the Charger touch downs, that is me.
