Flames Drop Another Tough One

Well it’s thanksgiving in the USA today so happy thanksgiving to you all south of the border!

I’m thankful I don’t have to watch another dibocal of a Flames game tonight. Instead I get to curl up with my remote and three football games to make the pain of the Calgary Flames go away for a few hours.

On to last night and the Flames once again outplay their opposition but find a way to make a backup goaltender look like an all-star in losing to the Devils 2-1 in a shootout.

Henrik Karlsson made his third start of the season last night and played very well, as did Johan Hedberg in the Devils net. Both goaltenders made a couple of five star saves to force this game into the shootout.

Honestly that game was painful to watch from an entertainment standpoint. If that is what the New Jersey Devils play like every game I understand why the building isn’t full. No hitting. No scoring. But great team play by both sides. Made for good technical hockey but boring to watch.

I wanted to say I am really reconsidering the idea of moving Robyn Regher. Regher and Bouwmeester have been a fantastic pairing for the last eight games or so. Of course now that they have found their groove I’m sure Robyn will be dealt.

Anton Babchuk is awful defensively. Great shot, good passer. But can’t play defense. Nice trade Darryl.

I have a bone to pick with Brent Sutter today. As you know I’m fairly pleased with coach Sutter overall. But last night with Matt Stajan out for a game and Jokinen returning from injury why would you not put Jokinen back together with Bourque and Hagman which has worked, and give Mikael Backlund one game on the top line? ESPECIALLY WHEN HIS FATHER CAME FOR THE ROAD TRIP FROM SWEDEN!!!!

Things like this make me question sometimes whether or not the Calgary Flames really think out their options or are just robotic as to how things will be played out. I think it would have been a good move for a kid who has done everything this team has asked out of him and has been our best two way center all year.

Next up for the Flames back to back afternoon games tomorrow and Saturday against Philly and Pittsburgh respectively.

Have a good one!
