Will USF Survive The U?

South Florida is coming off a tough loss last week at home against Pittsburgh and now they have a out of conference game at Miami. In last weeks home loss to Virginia Tech, the Canes committed six turnovers and lost by two touchdowns and also was knocked out of the top 25.  These two teams met a year ago in Tampa, Miami pounded the Bulls and won by three touchdowns. Miami jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and lead 21-3 at the half. I am expecting a closer game and perhaps a different result in 2010, even though this game is at Miami.

The Bulls offense is coming off a sluggish performance against Pittsburgh and this task will not be easy going against a stingy Miami pass defense. The Hurricanes defense have allowed just seven passing touchdowns all year while forcing their opponents into throwing 16 interceptions. Quarterback B.J. Daniels has his work cut out for him, it doesn’t help that Daniels is banged up and played with a knee brace last week against Pittsburgh, not to mention his turf toe injury that he suffered a few weeks back. Miami also ranks second nationally in tackles for losses, nearly nine tackles per game for a loss. Miami also is among the best in creating turnovers, the Canes are sixth nationally and have created 27 turnovers this season. Daniels has been turnover prone this year, he has been picked off  12 times in 206 pass attempts. Everyone knows the “magic number” for the Bulls in 2010. If the Bulls score more than 14 points, they are undefeated, if they score less,  they lose. What will give against Miami on Saturday?

All Time Series: Miami 2-0

Prediction: Miami 20 South Florida 13

My Thoughts: The Canes “D” is the best one the Bulls will face all season long and I am expecting Daniels to struggle when throwing the football.  What Miami team will show up?  That’s always the question when the Canes hit the field. The one that showed up against Virginia? If that’s the case, the Bulls could pull off the upset. If it’s the Miami team that showed up against Pittsburgh, the Bulls have no chance!

Bad Memories For The Hurricanes: It was Thanksgiving weekend ( in fact, it was the day after Thanksgiving ) at the Orange Bowl on Nov. 23rd and the year was 1984. A day I’ll never forget, I remember this game as if it was yesterday.  It was one of the greatest college games of all time! Hail Flutie as it is known. Flutie to Gerard Phelan….Sorry Miami fans!
