In the AFC match up of the week the Chargers are going to Indy to take on Peyton Manning and the Colts. The Chargers have fared well in the past against Manning and all his weapons on offense. Manning has seemed to struggle in the past against 3-4 defenses. In the likes of Steelers, Patriots and of course our Chargers. The 3-4 defense allows pass rushers to come off the edge and hopefully force Manning to make some poor passes. Manning likes to have time and step up in the pocket, so it will be on Antonio Garay to get push up the middle and Barnes and English along with the other linebackers to get to Manning off the edge.
The colts still have a very effective offense even with all their injuries. Dallas Clark is out and so is Austin Collie. It also looks like Addai will sit out this week as well with him being listed as doubtful. The Colts do not run the ball very well. Donald Brown will be their starting running back this week. Brown has 265 yards on the season and one touchdown. He is averaging just 3.5 yards on 76 carries this season. Although the are not effective running the ball the offense runs solely through the arm of Manning. manning is having a down year and I feel the that the Chargers defense should be able to slow him down.
The Chargers have some injury issues of their own. Ryan Mathews is also listed as doubtful for the Chargers as of now. As for Gates the team is still hopeful that he will be able to play come game time. As for our receivers Crayton will not play and Floyd is questionable. With Vincent Jackson coming back it will be crucial for Rivers and Jackson to get on the same page early and often. It will be a big test this week for the Chargers O-line, having to slow down the Colts pass rush. With the like of Freeny and Mathis it will definitely be in the game plan for the Chargers to try to not let these two guys hit Rivers often. I think that Tolbert could have another good game on the ground against the not so great Colts run defense.
The Chargers and Colts may be having down years so far record wise but both of these teams are still very good. The Chargers and Colts have gotten to know each other very well over the past few years and it should make for another very entertaining game.
