Slow Start Hurts Knicks down Stretch

The Knicks were unable to overcome an eighteen point deficit at half in a loss to the Hawks at home.
If there is one thing that we have learned from the Knicks six game losing streak, it’s that it takes four quarters to win a basketball game. Having to overcome a twenty point deficit in the second half is an unlikely and improbable thing for a team to do. The Knicks were actually able to cut the lead to four and one point in the fourth quarter but their push just wasn’t enough. You could make the argument that had the Knicks played a little better in the first two quarters, they would have won this game. It is important for the Knicks to understand that a great team starts and finishes games the same way, strong.
Although Stoudemire was the game high scorer with twenty-four, the Knicks shot poorly form beyond the arc and were battling against six Hawks that were all in double figures. With an injured Turiaf, and a bad game from Douglas, the Knicks were outmatched.
The Knicks who have fallen to 8-9 have an afternoon meeting with a struggling Detroit Pistons team tomorrow. The Knicks will look to get back to a .500 record.
