It’s hard to put into words what the Buffalo Bills put the me through today. The Bills fell just short in overtime again; this time losing 19-16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. What a roller coaster of emotions. Feeling frustrated from the poor performance in the first half, to feeling happiness when Rian Lindell kicked a 49 yard game tying field goal, to feeling anger when they lost the game on the foot of Shaun Suisham after kicking a 41 yarder. Today’s win puts the Steelers record at 8-3 and the Bills at 2-9 ending my hopes of an .500 season.
The Bills had a chance to win in overtime when Ryan Fitzpatrick launched one to Stevie Johnson behind the Pittsburgh secondary. The usually sure handed Johnson dropped the 40 yard pass. Buffalo then chose to punt the ball instead of trying a 57 yard field goal. This game was a hard one to swallow. It is so frustrating when you can tell the Bills want it so badly but the football Gods have chosen to punish the Bills fans with another close game. You are forced to ask yourself if you should start cheering for another team and see if they can find ways to lose the close ones like the Bills do?
The Bills have to improve on their run defense. Giving up 206 yards rushing will certainly keep them last in the league in this category. They allow other teams 163 yards running on average per game (wow), 20 more yards than the next closest team. With Buffalo going to Minnesota next week they better figure out how to stop Adrian Peterson, who is currently second in the league in rushing and the Vikings will surely be setting up their game plan to run all over the Bills.
How can I stay positive after a loss like this? I can tell myself that at least they were still in the game, I can say they never quit, or maybe I can say we’ll get them next time? They’ve had one winning season since 2000, lost 4 straight Super Bowls and I keep watching week after week, therefore staying positive isn’t even a factor. As explained to my wife you just take this loss and put it in the “Pain Closet”. The closet is getting really full and the Bills really need to find a way to empty it for me. I need to hear “The Buffalo Bills are Super Bowl Champs” instead of “Wide Right” or “Music City Miracle”.
*Sorry Miah, was hoping to title this blog “Nobody Circle The Wagons Like The Buffalo Bills” but I thought this one was more fitting.
