Drury Still Can’t Lift a Finger

Friday marks seven weeks the Rangers have been without their captain, Chris Drury.

Drury broke his finger at training camp and missed the first two games of the season. In the home opener on October 15, he re-broke the finger in two places and has been out of the lineup since. He’s gotten back to skating but still hasn’t been given the green light to grip a stick.

And it sounds like they’re going to have to keep waiting.

Larry Brooks of the NY Post [1] reported:

“It’s believed the captain had targeted either this weekend or next week for his return, but that will have to be pushed back following the CT-scan that revealed the finger has not fully healed.

‘It was not good,’ a disappointed Drury said on his way out of the Garden after the Rangers fell 3-1 to the Penguins.”

It’s better to wait than rush back into mediocre, injury-prone form. The Rangers could use their captain on the penalty kill, the power play and on faceoffs. This means Derek Stepan and Artem Anisimov have more time to solidify their spots on the first and second lines and make an impact at center though. Until his return, Ryan Callahan will continue doing a fine job leading the Blueshirts.
