Tomorrow night the Blue Jackets will have the opportunity to break their two game losing streak as they play the Nashville Predators. This will be a huge inter-divisional game that neither team can afford to lose.
1) Don’t Panic – The Blue Jackets are having a great start to the season. They need to continue to stick to Scott Arniel’s game plan and not push the panic button. It is easy to doubt what has worked for you when you have lost back to back games, however, the Jackets need to stay focused and get back to what has earned them wins this season.
2) Score First – The Predators will be playing their second game in two nights and will be ripe for the picking. The Jackets need to put pressure on them early and take advantage of the Predators tired legs. They can’t let the Preds hang around in a close game. The Jackets are 11-2 when they score first and have only 3 wins when they don’t.
3) Powerplay – It has to improve as they are ranked 28th in the NHL. Special teams can win or lose a game for a team. The Jackets have been fortunate that their PK has been so good this season. Eventually it will catch up to them if they don’t start scoring with the man advantage.
Ethan Moreau will be returning to the Blue Jackets third line after being out for more than six weeks. He was playing on a very strong third line before he was injured.
Nikita Filatov is a healthy scratch as he just hasn’t shown that he can play regular top six minutes on a consistent basis. Will he still be a Blue Jacket after the trade deadline?
Kristian Huselius has started skating.
Is there any truth to the rumour that Ottawa and Columbus could be working on a deal? Nikita Filatov could benefit from a new start. Ottawa’s Nick Foligno scored his first goal of the season last night against Edmonton and has been a big disappointment. Could they make an even swap?
Go Jackets Go!
