It certainly has been a battle of the power forwards this season for Clippers Blake Griffin and so far he has held his own. He matched Dallas Mavericks Dirk Nowitzski in scoring, earning 16 points October 31 and was triumphant in the battle of the boards as well as points when he faced Kevin Love and the Minnesota Grizzlies totaling 26 points and 17 rebounds to Love’s 24 points and 17 boards. Lastly, in his record breaking performance against the New York Knicks November 20, Griffin posted 44 points and battled Amare Stoudemire as well as added to his repertoire of extraordinary dunks.
Tonight’s game should be no different. The Clippers have seen the Spurs twice already since the beginning of the regular season, away on November 1st and home November 10. Although they were both in loosing efforts, Duncan was held to a low six points and six rebounds at the Staples Center the second match up. Griffin racked up a combined 28 points and 16 rebounds against them.
The Spurs have been undefeated on the road and have a 15-2 record that puts them in first place of the Western conference. Duncan is also coming off a triple double performance in a winning effort Tuesday night against the Golden State Warriors. The 3-15 Clippers have only been victorious at the Staples Center. Perhaps they are on to something, never play another away game. The Clippers point guard Eric Gordon must contain Spurs guard Tony Parker from averaging his 17 points and 7 assists per game. Additionally, fellow rookie Al-Farouq Aminu must contribute as another down low force in order to increase Los Angeles’ chance of winning.
