Well for most this is the last week before the fantasy playoffs begin, and for some it’s your last chance at a spot. We have a Thursday game between Houston and Philly so there are some decisions to be made before tomorrow, but thankfully most players should be easy decisions. With injuries to both Frank Gore and Adrian Peterson, owners may be frantically searching for replacements to their 1st round picks at the worst time, especially if they weren’t able to grab their back ups off the waivers. Brian Westbrook and Toby Gerhart, if still available are worth a look. Don’t look now, but Darren McFadden looks to have reverted back to his old self at the worst time in the season. He has a tough match up against a surging Chargers team, maybe it’s me, but McFadden could be dealing with an undisclosed injury. Though that’s pure speculation from me, people might want to keep an eye on him and an eye on Michael Bush heading into the fantasy post season where Oakland has Jacksonville, Denver, and Indianapolis, 3 awful run defenses. Things could easily change before the weekend, but some choices will need to be made before the weekend. Enough babbling, here are some players to consider this Thursday and Sunday.
Michael Vick vs HOU – For those of you worried about a bad outing against Chicago, consider that Vick is primarily throwing the ball deep padding his stats, as I have said before, and will face Houston’s terrible pass defense. He should gobble them up period.
Matt Schaub vs PHI – I’m kind of on the fence with Schaub this week. With the Texans relying on the legs of Arian Foster, Schaub’s numbers have declined, but with the likelihood of the Eagles shredding the Texans’ secondary the team could be forced to throw if they fall behind which would force them to throw the ball more. It’s probably a 50/50 shot, but if your other quarterback is facing a stiff match up Schaub could be worth a look.
Toby Gerhart vs BUF – I really can’t say for certain that Peterson will be out at this point because there are conflicting reports. However, to put their star player in jeopardy against a terrible team in Buffalo would be unwise and could lead to losing him for the rest of the season. In all likelihood Peterson won’t go and even if he does he should be limited making Gerhart the primary guy and a good play.
Matt Forte vs DET – After becoming all but invisible in fantasy land, Forte has reappeared at just the right time for owners who have stuck with him. The Bears are committed, at least in terms of touches, to the run game and involving Forte again. A match up against the Lions, who Forte torched (through the air at least) for 201 total yards, looks like a good run.
Michael Turner vs TB – Turner ran for 2 TDs the last time around and has been running well since. In what is now looking to be a very competitive game, Tuner looks to be in line for another good day against a suspect run defense.
Jeremy Maclin vs HOU – With the contract issues surrounding DeSean Jackson, Maclin has stepped up as Vick’s go to receiver and against Houston, I don’t know how many times I can say this…..well nuff said.
Dwayne Bowe vs DEN – With the role that Bowe is on you have to expect him to slow down at some point, but probably not this week, and maybe not this season. He has been playing lights out and lit up Denver for 186 yards and 2 TDs last time, though it’s important to note that they were playing from behind the whole game.
Kevin Boss vs WAS – With the plethora of injuries to the Giants receiving core, Boss has been targeted more and it is paying off, in fantasy terms at least. This week should be no different against a Redskins team that is breaking down.
Visanthe Shiancoe vs BUF – Buffalo is notoriously bad at defending tight ends, and with Shiancoe, again, involved with the offense due to injuries he is worth a look if your in need.
Good luck to all. please post any comments or questions.
